There are many joints in the human body, and joint pain is troublesome if it affects any one of them. Like many other maladies, this type of pain has many causes.
A range of infections can cause pain in the joints. Osteomyelitis, a bone infection, and septic arthritis, a type of joint infection, can both aggravate joints and cause discomfort. Other infections affecting joints are caused by viruses such as influenza, mumps, lyme disease, chicken pox, hepatitis, rubella and rheumatic fever.
Other causes include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, bursitis, gout, tendonitis and sprains caused by overuse.
